The new Silk Road initiatives or “One Belt, One Road” or OBOR that China is building along the ancient trading routes presents plenty of opportunities for the growth and development for the countries, peoples and businesses along these routes, and the equipment industry stands to benefit greatly from it!
The One Belt One Road program was a strategic plan first proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013, and in the year, 2016, it is ready for take off and very quickly becoming a reality. For instance, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank or AIIB which is the main development banking and financial institution for the program had already been established with its key management team being formed in January 2016.
The One Belt One Road program will improve connectivity across 65 countries (in many ways) over three continents via an overland belt that links China with Europe and a sea route that passes through South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
It is also said that this ambitious program which has been extended to countries outside the ancient silk road will eventually be connected to countries all over the world and to the Americas as well.
This is a brilliant plan that will greatly benefit the countries in OBOR and brings the level and scale of economic growth and cooperation to the highest level never been seen before in the history of humankind. Countries as diverse and far away from each other, from Kenya to Indonesia, Pakistan to Italy, Thailand to Malaysia, etc. will all join and share in the next phase of the growth and development of China which has itself seen its own economic miracle of unprecedented growth and development in the past 30 years. It is ancient but a refreshing concept that will open up new markets, and creates a new order for economic growth and development in a multilaterally beneficial manner as it is all about Win, Win, Win!
The plan also brings into focus large swathes of the Central Asian hinterlands (and some Eastern European countries) or Eurasia, that are rich in human and natural resources but have been largely overlooked by the Western world in the 20th century. They are nicely connected with the Western regions of China, such as the huge metropolis of Chongqing and the provinces of Shanxi, Gansu and Xinjiang which China wants to concentrate on in its new phase of development.
Countries in the One Belt One Road program will not only be connected via land, sea and air but also in new media of connectivity, such as in cyberspace and in 5G, 6G, etc. Imagine the amount of investment in infrastructure that will go into all this! Roads, highways, railways, information superhighways, power plants, factories, building, etc. all have to be built! It will rejuvenate the two ancient trading routes, stimulate and boost the economies all round and bring real prosperity to the peoples concerned.
There is new and refreshing meaning in the slogan, “Let a hundred flowers bloom!”. This is an awesome plan not only for peoples in the regions involved but for people all over the world as the growth will bring a boom of real GDP growth to an exponential level with multiplier effect!
Needless to say, it will bring great benefits to people in the equipment trade and industry as we share in the prosperity of the peoples involved.
